Have you thought of using a simple Audiogram Strategy in your marketing?
I can hear you asking, “What’s an audiogram?”
An Audiogram is a square image with animated TEXT appearing as a voiceover is heard.
By having animated TEXT on the screen, a viewer can WATCH the Audiogram on Facebook and other social media sites with the sound turned OFF so it doesn’t bother anyone else. The animations of the video keep the viewer interested to watch the short video, read the scrolling text etc to get the message being shown. Perfect!
Audiograms are posted to social media accounts and are square to fit with the format of those sites, like Facebook, Instagram etc.
Audiograms are perfect for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages on websites, adding search engine-friendly assets to boost SEO.
In this sample audiogram below:
- the website link is is not real :-)
- the size is 400×400 pixels for demonstration purposes (I usually use 1080×1080)
- the final size will be 1080×1080 for best quality on social media sites
- it’s important to have:
- a Title – for example: “FAQ 012” – this tells the viewer there are OTHER audiograms
- a question as a large Heading
- the website link to find this audiogram or the Series of FAQs with audiograms
- the animated TEXT which can be highlighted as the words are spoken
- a Gary Vee progress bar if it fits with the design etc (a small coloured bar which advances across the width of the video during playback, so the viewer knows how much they’ve watched and how much time is left)
- in some cases, it might be a good idea to add a small icon / graphic which represents “sound” so the viewer knows to turn ON or OFF (depending on where they happen to be when watching the audiogram video)
- optional extras — add INTRO or OUTRO to the audiogram at the start and end, if required.
Why are audiograms a good idea?
Many website owners and business owners want to use video marketing, but there are so many reasons why they don’t:
- from fear of being on camera
- fear of the video being awful
- fear of every step along the way
- including not knowing HOW to make videos, edit them, do Video SEO
- and publish them on Youtube.
Audiograms are a simpler way to make attractive, animated information to post on social media sites like Facebook and Instragram etc – without needing any “video” skills.
How are audiograms different from videos?
Audiograms require very little skill.
All that’s required is:
- an image (a different image for each FAQ is a great idea)
- an audio file (voiceover) for each FAQ
- basic computer skills (like email and creating documents).
Why should people use audiograms?
The biggest reason is that online audiences:
- want to be entertained
- want to be engaged
- will follow a Call To Action instruction if provided to go to your website or store etc
- want to watch videos or animations on social media but instead of just turning off the sound (at work, on public transport etc), they’ll be able to READ what’s being said — a huge bonus!
This allows business and store owners to create simple audiograms as an additional way to reach audiences of potential customers.
As long as there is a LINK/URL clearly visible on the audiogram, it can be shared far and wide and everyone will know where it originated.
Simple and Clever Audiogram Strategy
I coach my clients to:
- write down all the frequently asked questions (FAQs) they receive in person, via email, via their website and social sites
- add all those numbered FAQs to ONE page on their site or store blog
- create one page per FAQ to add extra information to over time
- create one Audiogram per question and answer with a link back to the one page for each question (created in step 3 above)
- make sure website tracking software is installed (or check website hosting traffic statistics)
- make sure there is an opt-in box on every page and post for the viewer to receive a PDF or something of great perceived value in exchange for an email name; once you have an email list, this is known as a “warm” list because these people are INTERESTED in what you’ve got to offer, and is worth gold!
- post the Audiograms on social media
- add the Audiograms to their specific pages (or product pages if it’s a Store)
- set up a posting schedule to make sure those audiograms are posted all year long to get in front of new eyes. For example, for 20 FAQs, post one daily for 20 days, then start again
- if new questions are asked, add those to the number list and create new Audiograms
- create a Pinterest board just for the FAQ Audiograms
- reap the rewards of this simple but very effective strategy!
