Should I worry about my YouTube numbers?

This is a great question which I received this week from Gregoire, and I’d like to provide a bit of suggested feedback. Here is part of the comment that Gregoire received via his website:

I checked out your YouTube channel and I have to admit that I’m a bit concerned.
You’ve been posting videos for xx years about how to get noticed on YouTube. And after an entire decade of your life, and out of the approximately 122 million active users who visit YouTube daily — and out of 2.49 billion users per month — you have managed to attain only xxx subscribers.

Gregoire told me that he was totally taken by surprise at the attitude displayed in this comment, and it threw him off balance for a moment. He scheduled his next Zoom Coaching Session with me for that afternoon, to get a different opinion on what had just happened. Here is some of what I shared back with Grégoire.

Depending on the type of business or service that you provide, you too may receive inquiries about your own YouTube numbers and whether or not they match the expectation of the person who is reaching out.

I have seen this written in quite a few different ways, and it can make one feel a little bit unsure of themself, and that perhaps they’re not doing a very good job with their business. Here are some suggested responses to reply to these types of enquiries:

  1. Thank you for your candid feedback.
  2. You raise a fair question about my own YouTube numbers.
  3. My channel serves primarily as a teaching tool for my clients rather than a growth vehicle for my own business, which comes mainly through referrals and my website.
  4. My expertise is in developing YouTube strategies tailored to specific business needs, which has helped numerous clients achieve significant growth.
  5. My success is measured by my clients’ results rather than my personal subscriber count.
  6. I’d be happy to share case studies of clients who have seen substantial growth using my methods.
  7. If you’d like to discuss your specific goals, please let me know when would be convenient for a brief call.

Please feel free to use any of these suggestions, depending on your circumstances.

Gregoire and I talked at length over Zoom about this comment, how it made him feel, and how to not let it affect his day.

Random comments can hurt someone else’s feelings, so we must all be aware of this, and be very careful that we don’t say anything to affect someone’s well-being.

By the end of our chat, we were both laughing and talking about the success that he’s been having with his business, and that this one comment through him for a loop for about five minutes until he chatted with me. He’s now put this to rest and is very comfortable in his own skin, knowing that his business is growing – I reminded him that it’s okay to feel proud of his achievements, and that I am very proud of him, indeed. :-)

If you have more questions, please do reach out and let me know, I’m happy to help wherever I can. :-)

And please do remember – you are doing a great job!

Please do not allow someone else’s negativity or criticism to alter the powerful day that you are already having :-)

Be proud of your YouTube numbers :-)

I do hope all of this makes sense – if you have questions please do let me know.
