Website Plagiarism Press Release Marketing Strategy

How do I deal with plagiarism of my website?

I am often asked this question, and I also see and hear similar stories online.

Website Plagiarism Press Release Marketing Strategy

For many years I created website solutions and marketing packages for clients, and every now and then I’d see some of my client photos show up on other websites.

The first time it happened I was shocked and went about it the wrong way to get it sorted.

The ‘thief’ laughed and said I didn’t have a leg to stand on.

That gave me just the shake-up I needed … I put on my thinking cap and sketched out what had happened — I find it’s easier for me to solve challenges if I draw them on paper :-)

I started from the point where I was the “winner”, and then I worked backwards until I came up with a plan that made a lot of sense — and harmed no-one.

Here is my Website Plagiarism Press Release Strategy

Let me know what you think!

Five Simple Steps

  1. Write a fabulous Press Release about that completed website, Project etc.
  2. Add a video, image, and a link back to the specific page on your own website (if you don’t have one – create one).
  3. Add a simple sentence at the end of the Press Release along the lines of, “One of our competitors (add their business name here) loved our Project so much they even mention it on their own website, and are offering to create similar Projects for their own clients. High praise for us indeed!”
  4. Post the Press Release on both free and paid Press Release websites online.
  5. When it’s published online, email your competitor, thank them for the additional exposure, and send them the link to your Press Release — they may be shamed or mortified, either way they’ll know what they did wass wrong.

I bet you’re asking, “Teena, does this really work?”

Yes, it does — something like this happened to me years ago and I did this Press Release Marketing Strategy.

It worked extremely well — the competitor rang me and apologised, and I told him I would accept his apology when (a) he gave my business a mention on his website as the creator of the Project (and (b) remove his own name as the creator) — or (c) he could remove my image/s and we could consider it closed.

You’ve got nothing to lose, and you’ll gain extra exposure by acting positively and without malice.

Keep me posted on how you get on.
