Solved how to remove the Scam pop-up using Call For Support

Question: How to remove the SCAM pop-up?

I got a call yesterday from a panicked client who was very concerned — she was doing research on the internet, and suddenly a pop-up window seemed to take over most of the screen — pretending to be from McAfee.

It scared her dreadfully, and provided a phone number to call AND a button to click — but she’d remembered my email newsletters over the years which basically said “don’t click anything you’re unsure of!” … so she rang me instead, and I’m glad I did.

Some of these nasty pop-ups have already installed a virus on the computers, and others beg you to “click” something to install a nasty virus, unbeknownst to you.

I did a quick search online and found a solution — straightforward steps to follow (see below).

I suggested my client also contact McAfee and read their Support page, and with renewed confidence she was able to follow McAfee’s steps and resolved the problem.

Too many people are frightened and believe messages and pop-ups like this, as they appear to be legitimate — maybe I’m cynical or just been online too many years, but I trust none of these messages and never click a suspicious link, especially if I can hover over it with my mouse and SEE the real URL.
