Sub-for-sub is something people did several years ago, but it was soon out of control and looked upon as SPAM.
YouTube:
- wants to see people subscribing to Channels which interest them
- does not want to see Channels where two Channel owners are subscribing to each other just to increase their subscriber numbers.
Now in 2021 this tactic is considered SPAM and is not acceptable by YouTube and many other online spaces.
Building a loyal following is far more important than brief “sub-for-sub” Subscribers:

- probably will never watch the videos
- and quite often unsubscribe very soon after subscribing.
YouTube’s algorithm can spot these spammy subscribers and are able to deleted them as quickly as they like.
