Today I came up with 8 tips to kickstart your day after I was thinking about what I do on a daily basis. I thought this might help others to get motivated and keep on track, avoid interruptions and diversions — this has been created as an infographic which is often easier to read than just plain text.

Do you constantly get sidetracked by your own brain all day, and wish you were more productive? Here are some daily tips to try.

1 — SHAKE YOUR BOOTY

If you like to exercise, do this FIRST. If you DON’T like to exercise, follow a walking, music or exercise video which is easy, or go for a walk to your local café after parking your car further away. Being ACTIVE wakes up the brain, the arteries, blood vessels and muscles in your body.

2 — REVIEW YOUR “TO DO LIST”

Sitting down to start your day will be so much easier if you create a TO DO LIST every night. Try 2 columns — MUST DO and NICE TO DO. Always finish the Must Do list before starting the Nice To Do one. Getting those hardest tasks out of the way first will make you FEEL GREAT!

3 — TAME EMAIL INBOX DEMONS

Email overwhelms us all — instead of making life easier, it’s made it harder, with constant ‘alerts’. Step 1 — turn OFF all alerts, set aside two times per day to read email, limited to say 10 minutes each. Step 2 — create FILTERS for regular emails. Step 3 — delegate where possible.

4 — REPLY TO EMAIL WITH VOICEMAIL

If you can’t respond to an email in 3-4 sentences or less, consider using VOICEMAIL. I use my iPhone, record a message in response to those emails, then I download the audio files and attach to the emails.  MUCH FASTER than having to write a lengthy response!

5 — TURN OFF ALL NOTIFICATIONS

Are you still getting beeps for every Facebook LIKE, social media reply, email or anything else? FREE your brain by TURNING OFF ALL NOTIFICATIONS.  Set aside two specific times per day (same time or different from email-checking time) and spend 10 minutes only.

6 — DON’T GET SIDETRACKED

Do you remember things you need to do whilst working on some other task? Don’t go pay a bill or do anything else, stay focussed — keep a NOTEPAD ON YOUR DESK and jot down all those OTHER things you remembered you need to do. Do them AFTER you finish your TO DO LIST.

7 — USE SKYPE — A LOT

Instead of attending meetings, I prefer Skype – in fact I use it for phone calls too because my cellphone coverage is spotty in my office. With or without video, it’s quick and easy and can save you lots of time. Travelling to and from meetings can be unproductive, so avoid in-person meetings unless absolutely necessary.

8 — TAKE BREAKS FROM THE LAPTOP

Every half an hour sitting at a computer should be interrupted by a quick walk around the room — yes, even if you’re in a cafe. You don’t have to look like a jogger, just get your eyes and brain to focus on something else for a few minutes — it will do you the world of good.
